Quick Rothmann Update - July 15, 2013

THE GOOD NEWS –
THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT!
1,967 languages still need a translation of the Bible. We’re praying those projects will be started over the next 12 years (Vision 2025)! On the other hand, we celebrate that 5 billion people have the Bible translated in their mother tongue. Wycliffe partners with Faith Comes By Hearing to share God’s Word in audio forms using technology to get that translation into people’s pockets; on their phones! This is great news when you think over 5 billion of 7.1 billion people in the world have cell phones and this number is growing rapidly.

THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPUTER SUPPORT
An IT specialist in Africa was attending a meeting of mother-tongue translators who had come from working in an area wracked by civil war. During their time together, he asked them to list the most difficult challenges they faced doing translation work in a war zone. The civil war came near the top of the list – but it was second. The number one hindrance on their list was the lack of computer support!
Do you know someone with a gift in technology? Wycliffe has great opportunities for these people wanting to serve! Contact Dan Neville (
dan_neville@wycliffe.org) if you have any questions.

FROM: LOREN
Praising God for blessing JAARS with new technology to collaborate more and support the work of Bible translation. With over 6000 members and hundreds of volunteers and partners working fervently in 90 different countries, there are thousands of opportunities to share ideas and take advantage of work already completed. The technology helps consolidate documents (e.g., project information, reference materials, technical documentation) in one location so that they are easier to find, use and update. It also gives us the ability for real-time collaboration and video conferencing. Technology changes like the waters on the Sea of Galilee, and this project is huge and almost as daunting. Pray for me to trust God’s leading so that He ALONE would be glorified in our work.

FROM: MICHELLE
While taking a summer break from home schooling, I’m helping prepare the next Intercultural Communications Course (ICC) at JAARS.  We were deeply impacted by this course in February, so I was excited to help assemble materials for the sessions this month.  Please pray for the ICC staff and attendees as they teach/learn how to be spiritually strong and culturally sensitive on the mission field.
Our family’s call to home school has become more extensive now that the boys are in high school. As much as I want to be involved at the JAARS Health Clinic, God is leading me and providing ways to finish their education. Not only are we seeing great growth academically, but also in their understanding of God and His hand in creation and history.

PRAISES!
Michelle is recovering really well from back surgery on April 18. After 5 weeks healing, we made a little modification to the car seat and she was so happy to drive again.  Talk about cabin fever!!!
The boys (including Loren) attended Camp Grimes Scout summer camp. Zack did a mile-swim, and Matthew learned how to drive a boat (somebody’s gotta rescue the swimmers right!?) They’re both making great progress toward their Eagle badges and make us so incredibly proud. As rising 9th graders, they joined the JAARS Youth Group - a great ministry for missionary kids. They’re enjoying fun social events at the Olive Branch (youth center and pool) and meeting kids from all around the world.
Loren’s family is visiting for a week on July 20 (sister and her son from Germany; mom from Wilmington, NC; and dad from NJ). This year the boys and their cousin are going with Loren on a canoeing/camping trip on the New River north of Wilkesboro, NC. Pray we make great memories!

PRAYER REQUESTS
• In this busy season, pray for us to keep God’s Word and will as our first desire and priority.
• Medical bills have been high lately and we are $400/month low on our support. Pray for God to bring new supporters.
• Pray for Matthew and Zack as they enter high school and grow into young adults!

• Pray for our family to stay strong as the demands of ministry can take a toll on our relationships.

Serving Christ with you,
Loren, Michelle, Matthew and Zack
